Matt has long held the opinion that any wife (or other permanent partner) he had would be at considerable risk, because of the number of the criminal fraternity who bear him vengeful feelings. There a number of the Covent Garden sisterhood are well-disposed towards him for putting away brutes and exploiters, and therefore give him the occasional freebie. But the thing with Clorinda does continue and is in a different category altogether.
