Oh good, not just me.
I also missed on first read the reference to Thomas Campbell, the Scottish poet who helped found University College London, and the Literary Association of the Friends of Poland, and wrote a biography of Mrs Siddons --
At summer eve, when Heaven's ethereal bow
Spans with bright arch the glittering hills below,
Why to yon mountain turns the musing eye,
Whose sun-bright summit mingles with the sky?
Why do those clifts of shadowy tint appear
More sweet than all the landscape smiling near? —
'Tis distance lends enchantment to the view,
And robes the mountain in its azure hue.
And his poetry was constantly criticized by the artistic dudes of his day for being too perfect and effeminate, and they also thought he wasn't ambitious enough. *eyerolls forever*
